Current Employee - Producer in Washington, DC
Current Employee - Producer in Washington, DC

I have been working at CNN full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Very generous PTO, if you're lucky to be with a group that allows you to use it.

    Cons

Low pay. Hard to move up in jobs. Plenty of people move up based on personality and yet they have no idea what they're doing. They call and ask asinine questions like are they supposed to a mic on a live guest in the field. The company obviously thought you were qualified enough to be a field producer. You tell me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating employees like their expendable. To the lower management people who think they are newsroom gods -- but are wrong 80 percent of the time -- remember that the guy who got walked out with his box of junk will be you one day. And I will not feel an ounce of sympathy for you.
