Unstable, unorganized company who tends to have many financial snags, causing their contracts to end prematurely.

Former Employee - Federal Sub: Painter, Pipefitter, Outside Machinist in Kittery, ME

I worked at CTR Group as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

The contracts have good wages and per diem usually, the company provides lodging and rental cars for employees to share, and there is always an onsite supervisor to represent the subcontractors. Although, sometimes you end up with the onsite supervisor that is never onsite. Travel and airfare is always paid.

CTR chooses excellent hotels for long term lodging. Every hotel either had a restaurant with comped meals for us, or free Happy Hour with complimentary dinner at night and comp breakfast in the morning, or we were lodged in suits with kitchenettes.

If you are selected for a contract, the company is very accommodating during the hiring process. They will even assist you over the phone in compiling a resume if you don't have one, or it's not in the correct format.

    Cons

Contracts were frequently cut short due to "administrative or financial discrepancies". The last contract I did with CTR was projected to last 3 months. We were onsite for less than one month and then sent home. Sometimes, contracts get extended and you get lucky. Sometimes, it's a crap shoot at how much work you'll receive that year. Being a temp isn't easy regardless of what kind of temporary work you are doing, but this company provides very unstable contracts when you do finally get work.

Additionally, it is nearly impossible for someone to answer their office phone or return your call unless you are currently on a contract or someone was nice enough to give you their personal cell phone number. So if you are looking for work, need to update your resume, would like a reference, or basically any of a thousand reasons why you may need to speak to the company you work for, good luck with that. This is the type of company that constantly reminds you of how insignificant and expendable you are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try returning a phone call of your employees once in a while. And finish the contracts that you start. Also, a little professional courtesy goes a long way.
