  1.

When they were spun off to a hedge fund, I resolved to bail, and I did. Good decision.

    Pros

Will pay well if you are on contract and the contract will support your rate. Some bright, well-intentioned middle managers who would like to reform the company culture. The company still has some outstanding technical talent.

    Cons

Years of horrible, me-first, back-stabbing culture reinforced by steady decline of the organization in the market. No sense of teamwork or shared focus, stemming from Compuware days. Under Compuware, professional services was viewed as lower margin than products (which were mostly inferior and poorly supported).. The organization was on a relentless decline. The organizational culture was like musical chairs: Try to survive the next round of reductions. The company is not positioned to win cutting edge, enterprise contracts, ergo, limited chances for career advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a long view. Develop vertical, business-oriented areas of expertise. The old Compuware, "blue-collar" technicians model positioned the organization as body-shop bottom-feeders, not innovators or leaders helping shape client initiatives and strategy.. Mend fences with past clients that Compuware blew off over the past decade because the clients wouldn't pay top dollar for bottom dollar value. Don't shackle the organization to some of the other, even more badly damaged units that the parent hedge fund purchased from Compuware.
