I worked at Cabinet Office full-time (More than 8 years)
Good opportunity to partake in workshops and talks with Senior Management. Lots of employee engagement workshops and initiatives.
Advice given by staff is very rarely acted upon. While there is loads of opportunities to engage and participate in business improvement workshops and staff surveys Senior Management either can't be bothered to follow it up or think it is staff having a go at them. There is a lot of talk about change and reform but when Ministers and Senior Civil Servants realise that they might have to change their ways of working and approach they fall short of doing so. Shame really as there is some great innovation and ideas put forward by staff.
Advice to Management
Do more listening to your staff Do more acting on feedback Do less putting ill-matched Senior Civil Servants or external consultants in charge of staff ideas and innovations. Do more monitoring of changes to ensure they are working in practice as well as in theory.
