Former Employee - Assistant Store Manager in Las Vegas, NV

I worked at Calico Corners full-time for more than 5 years

If you love working with fabric, this is a great place. It is inspirational for yourself & will help you grow as a designer in the industry. You also learn a lot about how drapery is constructed, including hardware & blinds so after working there for 5 yrs, I felt very accomplished. The environment is very nice & lots of comfy furniture for you to sit in when there is down time. The displays that corporate devises are pretty, too,

The company is cheap & the fabrics & labor are very expensive for the consumer. You better know how to sell because the company expectations for you to do so are very high, almost unreachable goals. Twice a year you have to completely change the store, which means moving all those bolts of fabrics to another side of the store & take inventory, too. What a drag. You get no help so be prepared to be strong & go up & down ladders & roll every single bolt, too. It is labor intensive, since there is no cleaning crew, either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How cheap are you not to spend advertising money to draw in customers? Hardly no one knew we existed in our town! And please just get rid of the "designer" & let the sales associates on the floor go to people's homes when they connect with the customer in the first place!!
