I worked at California Institute of the Arts part-time (More than 5 years)
Amazing creative environment with a lot of freedom. Incredibly talented teaching professionals. A very determined and dedicated student body. It's a great atmosphere to be a teacher in while also pursuing professional goals.
Most of the upper management, and the administrative leaders in particular, are very out of touch with the original vision of the school. The campus is being run more like a for-profit business rather than focusing on being a pioneer in the arts. This effects the students as well as the faculty. Because of the huge operational budget, more faculty are laid off than administrative workers, which creates a greater strain on the remaining faculty and widens the teacher:student class ratio.
Advice to Management
Upper management and admin need to be trimmed down, especially considering that there are some incomes in the six figures. At an art school no less. More financial burden is being placed on students since they have to compensate for tuition hikes. True transparency with the operational budget would be good as well.
