I have been working at Capital One full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Mission is a real thing, not just a slogan. This company genuinely cares about its customers to make sound financial decision.

    Great value and competencies

Smart people who can make anything work

    Cons

Arrogant in a wrong way. 1) Always chasing after a shining object, whether technologies or practices, company has not fully exploit the benefits before moving on to something new. 2) demanding year-after-year efficiency but not investing in people and tools to make things better.

Still very Richmond-centric. Still operating in old-school out-of-sight out-of-mind mentality.

For a financial company, it does not have a good finance practices. 1) unbalanced budget hinders business competitive edge. 2) 1 billion+ budget is being run by less than qualified people who in turn creating havoc year after year

Some critical applications are still running on antiquated infrastructure with no incentive or enforcement for owners to refresh or innovate.

Performance management process is extremely heavy that it actually takes away cycle for real work and innovation

Slow decision making process is in the way of agility and innovation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The root of the problem is with finance and HR process. To become a better company, the following suggestions are strongly recommended:

    1) Change the way process for budget forecast and budget management
    2) Remove outdated performance management practices and give cycle back for people to do real innovative and productive work
    3) Embrace and encourage just do it model consistently across the board, walk the talk

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
