Current Employee - Contract Administrator  in  London, England (UK)
Current Employee - Contract Administrator in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Carillion full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The best things are the people - I always find the sites I have been to and the employees I have worked with are good, usually hard working and fun people. My work life balance is also good, I am not pushed to work outside of my contract hours if it is not essential.

    Cons

They are too big. All support functions are slowly being outsourced and it is becoming harder and harder to get responses out of people, without having to wait for a 5 working day SLA. Also, I find management don't always push you. If you want training and progression you have to keep on asking and chasing for it, it's not readily available.

Also, for such a large company that often communicates to the press (and staff) about how well it is doing, we rarely receive payrises, bonuses, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop outsourcing everything. Better communication is needed: update the databases so that the Great Debate doesn't get posted out to staff who have just been made redundant, make sure relevant messages are getting to all staff (and not just line management). Update the Intranet and make sure all processes are detailed on there, as well as contact information being kept up to date. Try to keep your staff happy and not just the customers.
