I have been working at Cellular Sales full-time
Flexible schedule, pay can be good. The people who do well are single, young people with no family or other obligaitions. If you can devote your life to selling phones you'll do good. Basic benefits, nothing special. I've been with the company over 5 years and it has been going down hill for employees for the past three. They were sued and eventually went from 1099 contractors to everyone being W-2 employees, when that happened the company rapidly started changing in pay and other areas (not for the better). Central Florida's 2 regional directors are the best in the company for the most part.
Cannot work at one location, they make you drive sometimes hours to other stores and do not compensate a penny for driving time or mileage. No loyalty- I've heard management tell a 5 year employee who was asking for some kind of leadership position that he deserved that if he can be replaced by someone who will sell more, than he who'll be replaced. More recently our team lead told us that we are spending too much time with our families and need to work more (even though we had mostly all exceeded our goal). Spending too much time with family? Wow! Another employee decided to go back to school part time and work full time, when asked if he could pick up a shift from the team lead, he said he had class, the team lead got mad and said I hope your class is going to pay your bleeping bills. So they do not promote higher education, family life, or longevity in the position. You will pay for 'deacts' even if they are false deacts, and pray for a returned email when inquiring about why up to $280 was taken out of your check for a phone still active. A deact happens when any phone you sell deactivates service with verizon within 180 days of purchase. You're paycheck will be whatever it is, there is really no real way to anticipate your check because of deacts, missing items, and other random things they will take out of your check without any notice. If you do not double check your paycheck, you will randomly lose money every month. I have been shorted up to $1000 because of a 'mistake' someone made that if I wasn't on top of things I would have lost. Any and all accessories and phones that go missing, you will pay for, no matter what. Missing iPad? Say good bye to $400-800 out of your check. Even if stolen or another employee took it for another store. Lastly, no advancement opportunities. There is a regional manager that covers the region of maybe 30-40 stores, then there will be 5-8 'team leaders' who are the managers of maybe 6 or so stores. No management in the stores. Recently they have created little positions that goes to the team leads best buddies, and they are told they will get paid extra and other special privileges, which neither happens. They 'trainers' are not qualified and the sales rep you're assigned to is probably a terrible rep because all the good reps drop out of the training program because they are lied to saying they will get paid for training new hires. After a few months of doing it and finding out you'll lose money training people, you stop doing it. It takes you off the sales floor and you lose opportunities. Oh and last meeting we were told that odds are one out of three of our coworkers won't be here in 3 months. I'm sorry but most companies appreciate employees, not threaten them. It went from a fun job that everyone loved and made 5k plus a month to a job that maybe 30% love and you make $3k a month. Sure they will tell you you can make $100k a year, but no one in my market (one of the best markets in the company) makes that much. You'll make $35-45k, be have your job threatened all the time, and be discouraged from taking a vacation (and no there is no vacation time or sick time). You cannot call off even if you're dying, you have to have your shift covered. I've seen employees throwing up sick as a dog, but working because no one would pick up their shift last minute. Don't expect a last paycheck, they keep it all to cover your deacts. I've spoken to ex employees who have never seen a penny. You're supposed to get whatever is left after 6 months, but after they have emailed and called and begged for they money, they usually get ignored and no response.
Advice to Management
Appreciate employees! Promote higher education, not discourage it. You may be required to eat sleep and breathe this job, but to is its just a job and we will not do that. It is not a career position like other companies have, and when we are told that we are easily replaceable, we will not treat it like a career.
