I worked at Center for American Progress full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Large intern class made it easy to make summer friends right off the bat; econ in particular was the largest, and camaraderie was good among us
I lucked out and got a really good supervisor who made sure my experience was rewarding and that any grunt work I had to do was kept to a minimum. Ended up with plenty of bylines on high-impact products. Be proactive in asking who you'll be directly reporting to and working under; made a world of a difference for the internship experience
Special Assistants in econ were awesome and really worked to make things worked for us. If Ethan is still around, make friends with that guy. srs
Office is very young and pretty chill overall, casual Fridays is fun and everyone empties out into happy hours
No one breathes down your neck on attendance or work progress, some self-motivation thus required

    Cons

If you're gunning to intern somewhere that'll end up with a job offer, this is not it. Too many interns, almost no good entry-level jobs available most of the time
$150/week as a stipend does not cut it if you have no other financial resources for a summer in DC. Tread wisely
Again, work can range from grunt to really meaningful depending on your supervisor

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut down on interns and pay them more; you'll get more out of the interns

    Recommends
