    I have been working at Center for Human Development

    Pros

    Reasonably flexible hours, although some favorite people were given much more leeway than others.
    Some flexibility to make up hours within a week.
    Can take earned time off whenever you want.
    30 day sabbatical every 7 years.
    No official supervisors, the company has self-directed teams instead of a hierarchical organizational structure.
    Total freedom on how you get your job done, as long as you are working towards strategic goals.
    If you are around long enough to take advantage of it, the 401k/403b company contribution is outstanding with the company contributing (not matching, and independent of your own contributions) 13.5% of your annual salary.

    Cons

    Mostly crappy benefits. Medical/Dental quite expensive (cost 10X more than anywhere else I've worked) for very poor coverage and no plan choices, no optical available.
    Not very much annual time off.
    Every 7 years for the sabbatical is a long gap, many companies that do this offer them on 3 or 5 year gaps.
    The 401k/403b contributions are vested at 25% after 2 years, 50% after 3 years, 75% after 4 years, 100% after 5 years.
    No official supervisors. No one wants to make decisions or take responsibility for anything, so decisions are either made off the cuff without any warning or discussion at all by an Admin Council or they take years to make with literally hundreds of meetings.
    The meetings, so many meetings. I actually had a 1 hour meeting about when to have a 1/2 hour meeting, with all the necessary people already present.
    An "It is what it is" mentality, where everyone just sits back and accepts the status quo, for better or worse. Although they will have lots of meetings about it.
    Despite the general "self-directed teams/non-hierarchical org structure" an Admin Council still makes/enforces/approves most decisions of any importance.
    The "Information Coordinator" who was the technical person on the Admin Council retired and it was decided to not re-fill his position. So the Admin Council now has no representatives with anything other than passing knowledge of information technology.
    Very cliquey. Some people are favorites or have been there forever and are treated differently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It would probably be a good idea to eventually re-fill the Information Coordinator position or to appoint a member of the technical services team to be a member of the Admin Council so that someone can be thinking about or responsible for long term strategic organizational tech goals at an administrative level.
