I worked at Center for a New American Security as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The atmosphere at CNAS is great. The staff take their work very seriously, and expect their interns to do the same, but at the same time they don't take themselves too seriously. I was given a lot of responsibility and got to work on a variety of projects while there, and was included in many planning meetings and conference calls. In addition, the opportunity to work alongside serving military personnel from every service was fantastic. I grew a lot as a researcher during my six months.

    Cons

Occasionally I wouldn't get the feedback I was looking for on memos or other research products that I turned in, and sometimes was left with a lot of time on my hands when there wasn't a lot of work to go around.
