No HR department Promotions are often skewed toward men - smacks of a Good-Ole-Boy mentality. Women are often unfairly treated, and do not always receive the same support on projects as men. Some Partners have been known to scapegoat associates when a project goes south due to their own lack of attention to it. Partners tend to micro-manage leaving little lattitude for PMs/Associates to get the job done efficiently. Design must always be performed by Partners, little room for architects to input their ideas.
Advice to Management
Let Architects do their own design on smaller projects. Allow PMs/Associates to make time sensitive decisions without being chastized for not waiting for a partner to have input in simple issues. Back off on the detail drawings. Stop telling contractors how to build basic items they make every day and free up your interns to do more important drawings. RE-educate yourselves on managing a business successfully. You want to avoid becoming too "corporate" but your business suffers for lack of attention to critical details. ASK for input from employees, remain open-minded, and follow thru with good ideas. Provide moral support for your PMs and Associates when problems arise and be held accountable for your own mistakes. Provide PM training to make your projects run smoother.
