I have been working at Centura Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Multidisciplinary team, RNs, docs--everyone but management.

    Cons

Management fosters a passive aggressive culture of 'telling on your coworkers' (much like kindergarten) and will keep incompetent practitioners around because they follow the rules without exception. Rules and protocols were nowhere to be found. They were either being updated or someone's computer. Most of the employees have been around for 15+ years, so many rules and protocols were largely known and unspoken. However, if you break a rule, you will be given a verbal or written warning. One-on-one meetings with management are accusatory, hostile and unproductive at best. They occur often, are unannounced and set a horrible tone for the rest of the day. They are largely out of touch with clinical practice. Nepotism is also apparent. The rules are different for a manager's daughter. One of the managers works about 4 hours a day and is salaried. How are these people in management???

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in new talent and foster their clinical careers. Talk to your employees like they are real people. Treat everyone equally. Listen to suggestions made by the people on the front lines. Delegate tasks and committee work to get everyone more involved. Publish all protocols and rules---make them readily available to everyone...and not just in paper format. Ask how you can improve as a manager instead of assuming you don't need to progress and change yourself.
