I have been working at Charles River Development

    Pros

Charles River is very selective in their hiring process which has created an employee base of smart self- managers. The base pay is a bit higher but not as high as you think given their base hours are 45 per week.

    Cons

Work-life balance is not good. The company does not support flexibility at all. You may get lucky and end up under a manager that bucks the trend but for the most part expect high scrutiny around arrival time and hours worked. There are few incentives beyond an okay base salary (see pros). The company has a reputation for being "cheap" as well as "stuffy".

Certain positions face even higher scrutiny (product owners, managers) and are frequently let go in less than 6 months if it is perceived they are not working out. Sometimes "not working out" may just be a contrarian opinion to that of upper management. Then why hire smart independent people to begin with

Turnover seems to be increasing and those extra hours can burden those still at the company during what is a slower hiring process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The micromanagement (sprint hour tracking, activity hour tracking, point rate completion), lack of additional incentives but consistent high expectations is eroding the employee base a bit. Hiring is effective in bringing in good candidates but there needs to be some significant changes to entice these employees to stay? Bonus and flexibility in the work schedule would be good starts.
