I worked at Chico's FAS part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great discounts on clothes.
Adequate company training in basic women's retail.
Opportunity is there for making good money through the commission based pay system.

    Cons

Hourly pay is low in relation to other women's retail hourly wage - unrealistic commission numbers are given to applicants to get them onboard, but they just don't happen. Hours are given to associates by manager through favoritism, making it impossible to work 'prime' times for best customers. Bullying by other associates is common and ignored by management. Hard to get anywhere with this company unless DM likes you. Co-workers take your sales as their own on a daily basis and there is nothing you can do about it. Wearing store clothing not 'required', but if you do not you will never get many work hours. Immature work atmosphere and highly stressful. DM wonders why turnover is so great when the answer is ultimately that it is a management issue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Address bullying and berating by fellow co-workers. Give hours to hard workers that are seasoned serious associates. Be fair and closely watch for 'stealing' of sales - the heart of your business. Consider dropping the commission-based idea. Customers of this company are loyal and don't need the 'one on one' approach commission encourages to keep coming and buying. Update the customer approach and pay a higher hourly wage to associates and forget the commission. This will encourage a true team effort and increase your sales - building a loyal workforce as well.
