Current Employee - Software Engineer in London, England (UK)
Current Employee - Software Engineer in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

good work life balance, telecommuting options. Opportunities for growth and movement limited if not located in the bay area. I worked in a very smart group of experienced talented engineers. Good place to be if you want to witness firsthand the inefficiencies of a giant engineering organization.

    Cons

Opportunities for growth and movement limited if not located in the bay area. A game of musical chairs at the VP/SVP level, new leader comes in every 12 - 18 months with big ambitions for the team, then eventually succumbs to the bureaucracy or the inter-BU politics. Did I mention the periodic layoffs ?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

upper management team needs to work on their euphemisms. Calling a layoff a ' limited restructure' or 'workforce investment' is so passe. How about 'annual plank walking' or 'quarterly iceberging' ? Please stop showing grief over having to make employees redundant - it is not personal, just business remember.
