Some excellent people, particularly in the regional organisations and outside of corporate. People work very hard in general and there is a remarkable level of commitment given the churn that the company has experienced in the last few years. The company pays pretty well, and the ability to work from home, and be flexible in working hours is a huge plus.

Corporate is still far too inward looking, political and self-obsessed. Cisco aspires to be the #1 IT company in the world, but it struggles against younger, more nimble and more enlightened challengers in most of the markets in which it plays.

    Advice to Management

Need to overhaul HR processes, particularly performance management and drag into the 21st century. There is a significant issue with managing expectations regarding promotions, and Cisco needs to consider implementing a structured rotation strategy. Continue to move to integrate product and service organisations.
