I worked at Citi full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are relatively decent depending upon one's position. Middle-level jobs commonly offer better benefits than entry-level jobs, but this may be expected across competitors.

    Cons

Very minimal training for entry-level and mid-level positions. High stress environment and language barrier among peers makes the job tedious. Dealing with frustrated customers is possibly the worst element of working in the student loans customer service field for this particular company. (For example, it is impossible to truthfully promote CitiAssist student loans based upon Citi's poor business practices and policies. (i.e.: unemployed students - and there are plenty of them - receive little to no options for postponing and/or reducing payments immediately after graduation and while searching for employment). Dealing with frustrated consumers on an hourly basis is not for the weak of heart, or for those who understand the client perspective. Citibank expects loan reps to be cordial and remain calm and collected during these heated interactions. Management is not supportive of employees during this process, and simply fails to follow through on notifying the powers that be of consumer complaints. I was instructed to "ignore" angry consumers' complaints on numerous occasions but would go home to the family each night feeling like a snake and scoundrel for not offering consumers options, or at the very least sharing their true perspectives, requests, complaints, and suggestions with upper level management. Very challenging issues with poor, misguided management. Pay rate and annual compensation not worth the headache, in my personal opinion. Thick-skinned individuals seem to manage better, but I could only tolerate (and sleep peacefully at night) after a few months working here. Outsourcing of jobs a common complaint, also.
