I have been working at Clorox full-time (more than 8 years)

Good Company. Solid performance and positive business outlook against other CPG companies. I love the Corporate Values: Work Together to Win v Take Personal Ownership, Stretch for Results v Doing the Right Thing. What I like about Clorox are the people at the base of the pyramid. Our products are great, but not incredibly inspiring but our advancements into Natural Personal Care and Healthcare are changing that paradigm. As far as how general work gets done, we are consensus driven and strive to inspire action rather than compel. Another positive is the half day Fridays we get during summer season, a huge plus. Now if they could make that happen year round, that would be a real benefit and would attract talent in a competitive Bay Area marketplace and frankly I don't see why we couldn't given our proven productivity during the summer months.

The work life balance is kind of there (we talk a good game) but if 50hrs/week is balance, then you have to revisit your personal values to see if they match. It feels like women are given more flexibility than men, but that could be personal experience/bias. However, the lack of career advancement is depressing unless you are an "alpha male or female", then you will become a "chosen one" so the environment is not as inclusive as we say it is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are only two functions where employees can grow from a job to a career where advancement is understood as part of the bargain: Finance and Sales. That's it. If you work in PSO, OTC, etc or you are not a "chosen one", forget it, you will rot on the vine. For a company that talks about how PEOPLE are so critical to success, I call BS. Also, the pay kinda sucks if you're a veteran so it really pays to hop around a lot - that's why we have so many "boomerang" employees, those that leave for 2 years then return for higher wages. And of course if you check the job board, there is very little to apply for - that's why it's so critical to ingratiate yourself with management so you can be assigned to a new role without having to actually apply for it.

    Positive Outlook
