    I worked at Cobham full-time (more than 10 years)


    Friendly co-workers, nice building, good location


    Company has lost its focus and passion. Talent is leaving in droves. Talent that's still coping is highly frustrated. Incompetence at every level! Miracle that products are leaving the door. Only due to some employee's own initiative to avoid unworkable systems. Company undergoing major change programs where millions are blown. Looking good but going nowhere. Slogans, pretty pictures and unread glossy employee mags everywhere. Zero trust in upper or middle management - some talent - obsolete technology. Lots of smooth talking execs that jump ship when things get tricky. Poor staff morale, disillusioned from years of unfulfilled promises. Company culture stubbornly resistant to change and stuck in industrial age ways of doing things. Essentially zero investment into staff and zero professional training offered. Simple activities can become major jobs. Complete resistance to innovation from within. No perceivable investment in engineering or new technology, R&D. Practically no chance of promotion or salary increases without threats. HR is a farce. Work - life balance? Dictatorial, secretive management style pretending to be friendly and open. Tons of meetings but nothing seems to happen. High upper management/director staff turnover. Dilettantish IT systems. Slow bureaucracy. Silo culture. Best gem: a late Christmas party in January to save money where you have to pay for your drinks. Oh - and you get a £70 xmas voucher that the wife spends! Great stuff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Built trust with your employees. Invest in them instead of buying new people. Fulfil your promises and create positive, visible, change before talking about it. Your slogans are a joke. Lame BBQ and donuts won't do. Learn that the main focus of the business is not CYA and breaking Health and Safety records. Management ought to apply their ethics training first. Scrap your epdr or make it work. Nothing will change if it doesn't come from the inside. Your business is running on vapours of obsolete, overpriced and unreliable products. Customers are annoyed. The time is running out for you to catch up with the present.
