I worked at College Board full-time (More than 5 years)
Benefits are great; good intentions by senior leadership team; fun environment (for the most part); handful of managers engaged and willing to listen to concerns of all employees
Expectations change on a daily basis; pay band structure is flawed (descriptions do not match responsibilities or ability of lower level management); on that note, TOO MANY mid-level managers; not enough transparency nor open communication between departments (again, held hostage by management); "do as I say, not as I do" attitude; inappropriate expectation to work weekends and overtime but preach healthy work-life balances; and, my favorite, complete hypocrisy from management team on any and all expectations. Lastly, the worst thing about this company is the "good old boys" group (mostly senior management) who promote and perpetuate nepotism.
Advice to Management
Stop hiding behind your "authority" and realize the impact the company could have on not only constituents but younger generation of employees. Eliminate the "middle management" where applicable; PLEASE have professionals evaluate and help you with pay band structure and to evaluate the company's use of moot management titles. Also, maybe teach your employees, specifically management, to stop reacting and ACT. Lastly, make sure everyone has a chance to complete exit interview and actually USE the feedback to help address reasons for people leaving...if you care.
