    Former Employee - Freight Supervisor

I worked at Columbia Sportswear full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The health benefits were decent and my coworkers were a pleasure

    Cons

upper management, corporate structure, direction of company, unity of company, direction, pay, policies and procedures, lack of willingness to listen to lower level staff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before I give my advice, I should note that I used to LOVE working at Columbia. It was a pleasure that turned into a nightmare.

Listen to the people who are actually DOING the job you're writing policies for. We're not all out to steal, lie, and cheat the company. We do actually know what we're doing and it would be nice if we were appreciated for it and compensated as such. It would also be nice if you stopped trying to do things that directly contradicted the company vision. The new slogan is "Trying things since 1938." Yet people who "try things" are immediately forced out. The company preaches environmental responsibility yet numerous times a day we had to print out dozens of sheets that we kept multiple copies of, for no purpose, because we also had to keep digital copies. And "authentic, american, outdoor, active apparel" can't really be your mission statement when every year more and more product was coming in with shoddy work, was being returned for falling apart, and is almost entirely made overseas. Stop making terrible decisions at every turn.

Tim Boyle seems like he's just waiting for Gert to die so he can sell the company. Everything that woman worked for that USED to be true about this company, I watched go right down the toilet as capitalism and "the bottom line" took over when she stepped down.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
