I have been working at Comverse full-time

    Pros

Telecom software, product is very good, grand design. A few managers are good and know how to be civil and professional. Very hard working environment (but see cons). Converged billing system helps both postpaid and prepaid calling plans.

    Cons

Management leaves a lot to be desired. Many managers are not even Management material, simply promoted in place of salary hikes, and don't know squat about people management. Found many rude managers, and very few decent managers who know to be civil. Expect to work many hours above the standard 40; no overtime pay or time off. Most employees are from developing nations - take from this what you will. Standard of English is very poor. Haven't met anyone who is happy to work here, and some are outright miserable, and yet they continue because this is the only software they know.

No salary raise in many years. Many employees are third party contractors who don't seem to be happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating people like people. Screaming at them like they are dolts or lesser beings is not going to get you intelligent work. Have employees rate their managers, and listen when they speak. Stop doing meaningless annual evaluations on indeterminable criteria and focus on enhancing employee value.
