I worked at ConAgra Foods full-time (More than 3 years)

If you like small rural area, then good place to be. I think the high ConAgra folks are trying to lead a great company but the individual plants don't reflect it that well. It is a food plant and probably runs like other food plants. If you are a supervisor, work an offshift and are lazy then the job is good to just sit in the office, look at Facebook, and possibly sleep if your other supervisors are cool with it.

Mediocrity is the best they can do. Atmosphere is to blame hourly workers if in management. Hourly workers feel they are treated as idiots (some are) but feel that they are the blame for everything. Slow on fixing or preventing areas that jeopardize safety (Blame workers for negligence ). Want workers to perform jobs not trained to do. This is because they are lazy to train, too busy to train, and they are extremely short on workers. Management just wants to hear what they want and the best person who pleases management benefits, not the one that tells 'how it is' or has shown success. 15 days of vacation is only given if your supervisor wants you to use it and if they like you. If you are liked you can take a day off to get bombed at the bar but if you are not then you can't take a day off to go hunting that lasts only 2 weekends a year with a tag given once every 5 years. Higher management and it goes through out the area are lifers (20 years +) with the company and are stuck in old ways. They are comfortable where they are and are the reason things don't change, especially culturally. Disappointed in knowing this is a typical food plant because I am not proud of the food made here even though most of it is good quality. Have to figure how to access your benefits by yourself through their fifty company web pages. HR doesn't help you with anything related to benefits because they will lead you back to the webpage. It is amazing lack of commitment towards a good job from the supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the local plants is stop accepting mediocrity or move to a different company. Hire more workers. ConAgra headquarters need to see that the local plant culture is not really changing for the good. Mentality is production first, then second and third with quality being a bonus. Hold management accountable for training workers. Showing English videos to spanish speakers doesn't mean they are trained in their task, especially when the TL is telling them the answers. Spend more money on preventing debris in food, not relying on human eyes who are working 20 hrs + of OT a week.
