    I worked at Cost Plus full-time (more than 10 years)


    As a GM, I truly enjoyed the entrepreneurial spirit of the workplace. If you had an idea, you could try it. If it increased sales, you were a hero. You also had the power to create your own schedules and build the employee base you wanted. The products are amazing and fun and always changing. Fantastic employee discount!


    For supervisors and GMs there is little to no work life balance, especially in stores with a lower annual sales base. The budget for sales and stock associates was extremely limited and pay wages for these positions were not competitive. Employee appreciation was not shown very often from corporate. Most of the incentives for the employees came out of my personal pocket.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give GMs training on how to train effectively. Compensate employees and show appreciation throughout the year. Listen to your GMs when it comes to staffing and schematics.
