Former Employee - Barista in Coventry, England (UK)

I worked at Costa Coffee part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Certain aspects of the training are very thorough
    Good opportunities for advancement
Customer-facing, so you can meet large numbers of people every day
    Flexible working hours
Working environment is dependent on the store, and the store manager

    Cons

Parts of training were rushed - you've seen it done once and are expected to be able to replicate it perfectly without practice!
    Lack of support at times
    Confrontational management style
Working environment is dependent on the store, and the store manager

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not tell people to leave their problems at the door!
Don't rush the most important, customer-facing parts of training
Take a more supportive management style
Don't treat the part-timers as a different species

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
