I worked at Crawford & Company full-time (More than a year)
Training was fairly thorough in Atlanta. The work is interesting. You can spend about half the time out of an office environment. I'd recommend it for a recent college grad. After a year it was not for me though.
Each branch operates like it's own company. Some branch managers paid significantly higher wages and gave more benefits than others. Salaries were low for the expected work. Raises were based on billing customers 50 hours per week yet we we're paid for 40 hours. Either we were expected to lie in our billings (illegal) or work 50 hours per week of which 10 hours would be unpaid (also illegal). I took the offer because it included a company car. I didn't find out until have I got my first paycheck that they deduct around $150/month for "use of company car." I left after a year in part due to these ethically challenged situations.
Advice to Management
Standardize across branches. At least standardize within the same branch. I'd have to use three different report formats depending on which of my three bosses was reviewing and approving the report- only because each boss had their preference for formatting. Ridiculous.
