I have been working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

EMR is user friendly. they have some wonderful support staff

Dartmouth has absolutely no interest in retaining good, quality people; It is a revolving door of employees: I have had 3 nurses in less than 2 years and have waited 4 mos for the hiring of a new MA. There has been an exodus of excellent physicians and mid levels in the last few years and Dartmouth does not seem to care.Their philosophy seems to be "its our way or the highway" and there is no room for discussion. I have had patients who have gone through 5 PCPs in the last 3-4 years but this doesn't seem to phase Dartmouth. During the hiring process they promise docs wonderful things to maximize efficiency such as having patients scheduled 15 min earlier than their appointments, daily huddles to look for bugs in schedule, autonomy over one's practice, late and no show policies; then once hired, docs discover none of these actually happen. They don't seem to get it that the doctors are the money makers for them and if they would concentrate on the issues that made the docs lives easier, not only would the doctors be happier but we could also see more patients. Middle management is completely oblivious to the issues that need fixing in the clinic setting, and when employees attempt to address issues, they are labeled as " complainers" and essentially told to suck it up. There is absolutely no support for doctors. The scheduling of patients is an absolute nightmare with the philosophy being- stick patients in anywhere regardless of their issues-they have a protocol for visits based on their complaint but they never follow it and any complaints about this fall on deaf ears so docs are forced to address more issues in inadequate time which leads to poor patient care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating your people like valuable employees and start working on improving employee morale-if your docs aren't happy, this trickles down to the rest of the staff.
