I have been working at Deloitte full-time
Working with well educated, diverse teams. Very good opportunities to learn project management skills. In my experience, there has been solid mentoring from Partner and Manger group in order to understand what the organisation is looking for from employees, and overall the company generally rewards based on merit. Getting autonomy to work for large, well respected clients early in career.
Long hours are expected, and it is difficult to disengage during weekends and evenings. Work isn't always exciting or fulfilling, so self-motivation and discipline is needed. Organisation and compensation can feel very pyramid focused, however this also means you can expect to be promoted every 2-3 years for the first 8-9 years at the firm.
Advice to Management
It would be useful to offer opportunities to experience different service lines early in a career. For example, give campus hires the option of spending a busy season in audit and a busy season in tax (or consulting), for example, as way to cooperatively identify which service line is the best fit for their interest and skills. It could be optional, and this would be more meaningful than "job-shadowing" during the campus recruitment process for those on the fence about what career path best suits them.
