I have been working at Deluxe Entertainment full-time (More than 8 years)
I've had extremely great experiences at Deluxe over the years. I've survived some very large layoffs and re-orgs and have moved through the ranks through determination and hard work. The people that work for this company are dedicated, hard working, and generally wonderful people. It's easy to make friends here. Despite what some say, there are still perks - weekly bagels, Friday treats in summer, company picnics, etc. These make it still feel family-friendly while being the big corporation it's turned into.
Work/Life balance is something I've not mastered but I've done that to myself as much as the company has done it to me. There are a few management choices that I don't agree with. But to the flip side of that, I've never had a problem saying so or being able to justify my reasoning. The repeated layoffs and lack of bonus/raises in the past 5 years or so has left quite the sour taste in many people's mouths.
Advice to Management
Focus on the "One Deluxe" model. Be more open and transparent about the goals and visions for the company but also the hardships. All anyone sees are jobs moving to India. They don't understand why it's happening and assume everything is for "the greedy upper management." Change the moral at the lowest level while focussing on the big picture. Keep people informed. Make sure the right folks are in the right positions. (Hint Re-assess your management talent). Mandate reviews every year, at least. People like to know how they're doing.
