Politics even in a small library

Current Employee - Shelver in Denver, CO
Current Employee - Shelver in Denver, CO

I have been working at Denver Public Library part-time (more than a year)

Scheduling, helping people that appreciate the library as a resource.

As a shelver i was constantly reminded of my title by librarians and clerks alike as if i were a 2nd class citizen. Librarians/clerks constantly harass the local homeless youth over small petty things like odor and loud headphones while small children are given free reign. Merit increases average about ten to twenty cents annually.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Librarians have way too much power and essentially answer to nobody. Word to the wise, if you rub a librarian or an employee they favor the wrong way, your life can and will be made miserable and your word has little to no effect. I experienced this first hand and think branches and librarians need to be monitored objectively by upper management as there is always two sides to every story. Branches need more diversity both ethnic and gender.
