I have been working at Dollar General full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I love the job because there is always something to do. I also love that all employees take part in all locations of the store. You spend time at the register as well as time stocking and facing shelves. For my location dollar general pays better than most other entry level jobs. They almost always promote from within and there are tons of opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Due to being entry level you deal with a ton of nonsense workers. High rate of call out, and most perform under expectations. You start out with a 35 hours scheduled for your week and very quickly end up in the mid to high 50's after all of the call outs. My store in particular has 10 employees with 80-90% of workload done by me and the store manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Payroll needs to be aligned with workload. My store manager ends up with 60+ trying to make up for lack of budget. Store managers burn out too quickly and are not effective having to work 12 hour days 6 days a week.
