    I worked at Dyn full-time

There are definitely worse places out there to work for. Dyn has a lot of great benefits; healthcare, 401k matching, stock options, snacks, gym, etc. Nothing terribly unique in the tech sector these days, but still nice to have. If you're starting out in your career, I'd say it's a good place to cut your teeth, see how things tend to work in mid-size companies. My general impression was that life is better if you work upstairs at Dyn, in client services, bizops, marketing.

Dyn lost its way somewhere along the path as it grew from a startup to what it is today. There used to be a lot more drive and energy around creating new products, improving existing products, and generally delivering a great product to the users. As things pivoted away from the DynDNS customers toward the promised land of enterprise business, it felt like people just weren't as energized as they used to be. Projects started getting dragged out, and it became more about deadlines and slapping something together that would work, rather than taking the time to make a really quality product, or something that wasn't just a copy of what another company had done and call it innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think a lot of middle management needs to be sacked. Dyn wants the energy of a startup, but it's filled with Fortune 500 middle managers, and it's just not working. And maybe get someone with some actual charisma to drive the company meetings.

Also, pay people what they're worth. All the free snacks in the world doesn't make up for a salary that's significantly below market for the greater Boston area.
