I have been working at ENVIRON

I have worked for several environmental consulting firms and ENVIRON is one of the best. The benefits and salary are above average (assuming you know how to negotiate and prove your worth). The projects are diverse, challenging, and interesting. You are given ample opportunities to prove your worth to the company. You work with very intelligent people across the world. On a weekly basis, I am astounded and at times, intimidated, at the level of talent at ENVIRON. Sure, there are many academics with master's and doctorate's degrees at ENVIRON, but the miracle is how ENVIRON has found a way to effectively blend academia and consulting in a way that few firms are able to replicate. ENVIRON doesn't compete on a cost basis the way many other environmental firms do. The amount of in-house knowledge and expertise at ENVIRON can't be matched in the industry and ENVIRON's clients know this. The best environmental consultants in the world work here and as an employee, you get to learn from these people, no matter what level you are. There is great work-life balance, at least in my office. The management tries to spread the work out evenly to minimize overtime/weekend hours.

Everyone is laser-focused on their work and the work environment can be isolating, even in an office of 50-100 people. There aren't many people who leave for lunch and many offices are like working in a library. If you aren't able to keep up with the intense work environment and can't put out a quality product, you're quickly left to fend for yourself in finding billable work. Vacation time is dismal (2 weeks) when compared to other consulting firms (3-4 weeks).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Adding an extra week of vacation time would improve morale. Find a way to develop a more laid-back work environment.
