I have been working at EVS Broadcast Equipment

Simply put, EVS broadcast has brilliant product development and engineers and it is considered to be one of the best brands in the market. Although paradigm shifts do happen, EVS also has a strong current business model. The people in Liege, Belgium in large part are also considered to be very friendly.

The cons unfortunately to working for this great entrepreneurial organization is the negative culture in the North American region. It is hurting sales growth and causing the organization to lose great people even in a down economy. Communicating any issues or ideas directly to Liege is heavily looked down upon by the local management and many times people are reprimanded for doing the right thing. This unnecessary layer is causing several problems when it comes to dealing with customer issues and technical challenges.

There are also lacking standard procedures for raises, personnel reviews, and bonuses at the NJ office and it would greatly help to have the corporate parent provide active guidance to insure objective feedback. There must be a local HR representative on sight to be an active advocate for the rank and file if a personnel issue does arise. Currently, the regional GMs are given the role of sales, operations, HR, accounting and this has caused many serious problems due to the consolidation of responsibilities.

Finally, EVS won a technical Emmy last year and I am sad to say that no one on the technical support team received recognition for the conducted work. It would tremendously help morale if at least the executive management in Liege recognized the rank and file who executed this effort, put in the extra time, and sacrificed time away from their families.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executive management should really clean out the local management to help the business grow. This is an issue of dollars and cents as communication is inhibited between what the field is hearing from the customer and what is told to engineering in Liege. Also, controls need to be put in place so that the local rank and file in the regional offices have the same opportunities as everyone else. Top performing companies typically conduct true 360 reviews at every level of the organization to insure keeping the talent and losing the dead wood. EVS would truly benefit by adopting an objective criteria where everyone underwent the same process. Until then we will continue to lose top frustrated people to competitors.
