I worked at Echo Global Logistics full-time (Less than a year)
You are receiving a paycheck, casual dress code, a very young office and drinking Friday afternoons at around five till 6:30 (they do that to keep you there). Also, there are a lot of cool prize giveaways on Fridays if you have a solid week of sales.
You are going to work 6:30 - 5 or later each day and you will constantly feel like you are going to get fired. Young managers some of which have no business being in the roll. It is very hard to hit commission! This job is a waiting game, get your region managers to like you and they will throw you a bone as people quit and carriers are no longer locked. Commission will be hit realistically in a little over a year but if you can handle the long days and low pay for a little over a year then there is some real promise but from experience I will tell you it is extremely difficult. Also, prepare to eat work at your desk because eventually you will almost be forced to.
Advice to Management
Be honest to new hires. Rollover is way too high so cut down on carrier reps. Have managers that understand the business better, every time I would have a breakthrough with a new carrier management would screw them over (I have some horror stories with names) and then I would lose the account. Also, don't play favorites, I had an account worth 40K+ in commission and it was given to some jerk that was there 1 month longer and the reason was "he has more experience" I probably would still be working for echo if this incident didn't happen.
