I have been working at Ellie Mae full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - free ice cream - free golf simulator (this would have been a perk 30 years ago) - free monthly breakfast (yeah...monthly)

    Cons

    - no real perks - mediocre talent (definitely not a place that attracts top talent) - antiquated company values (great for 30 years ago) - antiquated HR policies ("but this is the way we've always done it" attitude) - non-competitive pay - startup size but very slow moving - business casual dress code (really?). While not strictly enforced, it's definitely culturally enforced. - too many employees who have been there forever (now managers), with no real experience in the industry

    Advice to Management

Get over yourselves. If you have to install software, you're not a SaaS company (quit throwing around buzzwords when you don't know what they mean). Foster the startup culture. Don't keep people around who have been there for 16 years and not worked anywhere else. You need to learn from what other companies are doing. Start hiring real talent! The bar is set incredibly low because all the top talent lives in PA, MV, and SJ. Do something to combat that! The CEO is fond of pointing out how well the stock is doing. Easy to say with no competition in the space. If a competitor steps up with decent developers, it's game over. The point of SaaS (REAL SaaS) is that it's easy to put in and take out.
