I have been working at Elsevier full-time (more than 3 years)

Work-life balance. Good people at the professional level. Lucky to have an impressive-sounding, professional job.

Stepford management. Frightened adults, who can mostly quote business-speak, and have few original ideas. Lack of innovation. IT and Product Management circa 1997. Have yet to discover the World Wide Web. People putting out products with no prior experience putting out products, while people in 'lower' positions may be the real experts, with resumes and successes to back it up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read some ancient philosophy, and try to absorb it. Try Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Marcus Aurelius, for starters. We're all here for a very short time. Why not do your best instead of faking your way through life? Read some books. Take some classes. Ask the advice of some of the employees with years of experience in the web, technology, science, medicine, editorial - instead of putting poseurs in positions of power. Check in with yourself from time to time, and make sure to carry that Richard Feynman quote with you: 'the easiest person to fool is yourself.'
