Eskom Photos

Large open plan spaces with lots and lots of cubicles. White noise is pumped through the PA system. The environmental control system is permanently set at 25. It is stuffy and hot.

I worked at Eskom as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits of working for a vertically integrated utility is great as you can get exposed to all aspects of the business from Generation, Transmission, Distribution, System Operator, Customer Services and all the support services. There is also opportunity to work in technical or management or operational or strategic parts of the business.

    Cons

The leadership of the company has deteriorated to an extent where there is no internal decision making by Individuals as it is all done by a collective. The vertically integrated nature of the business also does not allow any business that is flourishing to reach its maximum potential.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership of the organisation needs some serious introspection in order to steer the company in the correct direction and must have the courage to challenge the Shareholder (the State) to ensure that the correct decisions are made in the Real interest of the country.
