I have been working at Expedia full-time (less than an year)

Exciting work environment with many fun teams to join. The company is large enough to offer many opportunities but small enough that everyone can make a big impact. When major goals or milestones are achieved there are often great rewards and celebrations. Teams take ownership of their products from start to finish. Expedia promotes a healthy work life balance. There are many small benefits that are offered that really make a difference in creating an enjoyable work environment such as free beverages, team events, company or organization wide parties / events, team building activities, free food can often be found, an in office health clinic that is free for many of your health needs, and free or subsidized transportation (orca pass). The company is currently growing rapidly making it a great time to be part of Expedia.

Like everywhere the team you are on makes all the difference. If possible, try to join a team that has strategic importance and adds value to the growth of the company. As a newcomer it is important to network across your organization because there is definitely an old guard at the company. If you want to progress then you need to make yourself known and show that you add value. The work is often challenging but it is possible to get stuck in a rut if you don't fend for yourself and reach out for new opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage employees to be involved in projects that span across teams. Some teams can become siloed making it difficult for employees to advance in their career. Managers should look for opportunities for their direct reports to participate in that can help advance their career. Often, management suggests to their direct reports that they need to be involved in projects that span across teams but it would be helpful if the managers could make more of these opportunities available. Managers are often responsible for multiple teams which may be spreading their time too thin. It is difficult for a manager to help any one individual in advancing their career when the manager is splitting their week amongst 3 different teams.
