Great company - but too much emphasis on stock price.

I worked at Expedia full-time (more than 5 years)

Expedia had some of the most dedicated people I had ever worked with. There are a lot of passionate people who are looking at transforming the travel industry. The benefits are great, including travel benefits. "We Love Travel" is one of their internal phrases and they mean it. They have an internal distribution where you could ask travel questions and get several responses, even for out of the way places like Myanmar. Very challenging environment where you can really make a difference.

Everything about Expedia is geared towards their stock price. They really don't care too much about their customers. They play lip service to Work / Life balance. As an international company you can work 24/7 and they would let you. Your experience can be shaped by your Director / VP. If you have a good one, life is great. If you get a bad one, you will get worked like a dog. As a Microsoft spin off, they retained several of the undesirable traits of that company. Very political.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Worry more about your customers and the customer experience and the stock price will take care of itself. You need to review your mid-level (Directors and VP's) for how they are performing and make the choices / changes you need to. Expedia would be an even better place to work if they would find leaders who will consider the people who put so much into making Expedia great.
