I have been working at Exponential full-time

The company is full of some great people. I've enjoyed working with people from across all teams, though it has been quite an adjustment. Some pros that I can see:

    - respect for work/life balance if you so desire
    - opportunity to make a path for yourself--but you need to be very pro-active
    - company has recognized some of its shortcomings and has made significant management changes that have not always been taken well, but seemed much needed
    - strong comp packages, above market pay
    - a lot of independence given to employees
    - catered lunches
    - most managers are homegrown, which means plenty of promotion opportunities

I have to caveat all of this by saying that this is not a very typical company. If you can get your mind wrapped around it, it's a good place. If you need to have very pre-defined roles (e.g., CEO as charismatic leader), all hands meetings on a regular basis, and a lot of process/policy defined, this is not the place for you. You need to be flexible and willing to execute on your tasks even without being told sometimes.

There are downsides as any other place:

    - office culture in some offices is very strong, not as strong in others. It's hard to be consistent globally.
    - open office arrangement can be very annoying
    - not a lot of formal training in place, and that can be a problem with homegrown managers
    - very spread out employee base means a lot of international calls and time zone issues
