Outstanding co-workers who are always willing to help and teach you. Challenging intern projects that have real value and will make you a better engineer. Large company with many different career opportunities. Many locations and positions allow you to choose where you want your career to take you. Industry leading safety culture. If the job cannot be done safely, it will not be done at all.
Large company sometimes lacks the personal touch. There is a focus on checking off items on a worklist, not on doing the job well. The 2 year job rotations does not hold engineers accountable if their solution fails drastically 5 years later. Pattern of promoting 2-4 year engineers into management roles, creates leaders who sometimes lack the technical chops needed for their role. Lots of time is spent progressing tasks through the systems.
Advice to Management
Continue to make the EM machine better. Is there a structural weakness in the the technical training of new engineers? There could be major safety and financial impacts, if the new process changes are being approved by people who do not understand all risks and hazards of the process.
