A lot of promotion potential but not worth the pay

Former Employee - Store Manager in Capitol Heights, MD

I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time for more than a year

I started as a stock person making minimum wage. In a short four months I was promoted to assistant manager. This company is good for those just starting out in retail management. They are always in need of managers and would rather promote from within then hire outside.

Most of the locations are not in good areas which means high theft. The company does not provide any security outside of the camera system. The budget they give to run the store always leaves the GM working 70+ hours per week. With that budget you don't have room to pay employees there worth or hire enough staff which is the cause of high employee theft.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are not allowed to take major holidays off and some locations are required to be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. There are always changes happening to make sure you have a strong Assistant to help with these changes. If you have a family you will never be able to work normal hours so you have to be willing to miss out on some personal things
