I have been working at Fannie Mae full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Depending on the team, Fannie jobs are typically 9-5. The work isn't very difficult and there are very few people from first tier universities, so it's not hard to compete on an intellectual level. Plus, people are constantly switching jobs so if you dislike your team, you can easily switch. There are no real jobs at Fannie, just fake titles and endless shifting of employees to various positions to work on projects without clear deadlines so if you want an environment where you can do very little and keep a job, Fannie is the place to be.

    Cons

Fannie is owned by the tax-payer but inappropriately hires a lot of foreign workers, particularly Asians. They do not assimilate, do not speak English at above a fourth grade level and are very adversarial. There is no real mortgage market in China. The government owns all land and property so it is ironic we hire them here. Most of the work at Fannie is data crunching, but there is no reason an Indian or Chinese over an American should be performing this role. But veryone has to be politically correct at Fannie so there is little resistance to their abuse of foreign worker hiring. I believe the ratio of citizens to non-citizens at Fannie is 50-50. Fannie also has very outdated technology infrastructure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Start hiring Americans.
