I worked at Farmers Insurance Group as a contractor (More than 10 years)
For 8 years, this company's environment -- at least in my department, was the most open, diverse and drama-free atmosphere one could ask for in work. It might not be as fun as some of those newer companies that have table tennis, beer/bar and free lunches as part of their perks, but the minority of a%$holes, sure made it comfortable to be eager to get up each morning, looking forward to doing work. I miss that.
However, once regimes changed, all went downhill. Unfortunately, as Obama took office, some sort of Republican wave of bitterness took over, and it just takes a few or 1 person to exercise the typical atmosphere where fear, favoritism and micro-managing took place on a daily basis, so badly that people quit, everyone started to seem miserable, fearful of each other and unfortunately, someone high up in ofc, even took their life after being fired by this faction of undiverse, structured old farts that just couldn't control their 'control' of the ranks. It was so sad to see the change for the worse. Then eventually, I was forced to move on myself.
Advice to Management
Production, increase in sales and a reputable image can still be maintained while creating a fun, diverse and progressive atmosphere where fear, micro-managing and stiffness aren't part of the company's fabric.
