The bank's "Values" which they like to promote, look good in print but their actions do not follow.

I worked at First United Bank & Trust full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The employees are great to work with.

    Cons

Management's lack of action, response or backing of their employees is intolerable. The home office in Durant puts out talking points each week, for local management to discuss with employees concerning bank values and vision, "God first, Family second and Job third" and "...helping others to find their path to success." They never really want any truthful feed back, they just want everyone to recite some feel good examples on how the employees can, or have, provided some service that supports these values and vision. The bank will not hire enough people to provide coverage for all positions for lunch time, sick time and vacation time, so most of the time people do not get lunch because there is no one to cover. The bank likes to tout that they buy lunch for those people and for a short term that is alright but when it goes on everyday, month after month and then a year, most employees would rather have their lunch time to do what they want, rather than eating a free meal while they continue to work. Management will not delegate responsibility or authority and therefore even menial decisions are drug out for long periods of time because you cannot get them to respond. The bank does not train their people but rather puts you in a position and expects you to perform your job. When you ask someone at the home office how they want you to do something, they refer you to the company's policy and job procedure library that is posted on the intra-net. It is impossible to look up anything because you have to have the exact wording for a procedure or policy before you can obtain any information. It seems like it would be much more helpful if the person you have asked for help would just send you a copy of the written procedure that they are instructing you to look up, since everyone knows that it is impossible to find information in the "Library". Seems as though the "helping others to find their path to success" motto should be, help your self if you want to succeed and you can find it for yourself on the "Library"! The bank wants it's employees to be involved with the community and projects within community which is a good thing but continually ask them to give up their family time in the evenings and weekends to support a bank sponsored event without reciprocating by giving work time off, gets to be too much. How about picking community events held during work hours and having some employees work those. God first, Family second, Job third, seems to be a feel good value rather than a live what you preach value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management and ownership need to wake up. The rest of the world does not revolve around Durant, Oklahoma and First United Bank. You could have a good bank and a good place to work but choose instead to think that everyone should be grateful and awe struck to work and bank at First United Bank. Communication, organization, training and employees are all broken. You will not be the success you could be, until you take a look internally and make the necessary and way over due changes.
