FH is not terrible, but not great either.

I worked at FleishmanHillard (less than an year)

    Pros

    - excellent name to have on your resume. this is probably the primary if not the only reason to be here.
    - you will learn from and with the best of the best, for the most part.
    - good client list.
    - if you're on a good team, you'll have a good, maybe even great professional experience.
    - Dave Senay is great. and the company is as ethically strong as they come.
    - there are some really great people at FH.

    Cons

    - individual offices can be hit or miss in terms of office culture. the most culture there will ever be is whatever the team culture is. your experience is pretty much determined by your team, but that's true of any job.
    - if you're a young person early in your career, listen up: your ability to turn an internship, GDP position, or Fellowship into an actual job, or to be promoted overall, has a lot more to do with your ability to self-promote within the company than it does your actual work performance. can't stress this enough.
    - favoritism is the name of the game. if the right person likes you, you're golden.
    - diversity poor (in terms of ethnic/racial, and in terms of thinking).
    - don't buy into the 'lifers' who have stayed since their first job out of college and haven't worked elsewhere. they give the worst career advice and defend the company ad nauseam, because they don't know any better.
    - don't think a good review or evaluation means anything-- it really doesn't. you are seen as expendable, regardless of years, dedication, commitment, ability, and time. no one will hesitate to fire you at any time for any reason. don't get attached.
    - long hours are industry standard but are expected without question at a junior level.
    - if you're on a difficult team, you're pretty much going to be miserable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - talent *development* is an action, not just a title. you have to actually want to retain and develop your junior talent.
    - self promotion shouldn't be what determines people staying at your company.
    - keeping smart, hardworking, passionate talent happy will make staying in the black less of a struggle and should be a priority. invest in your people.
