I have been working at Florida Department of Children and Families

    Pros

Good co-workers to work with. Saturday and Sundays off. Some holidays off with pay

    Cons

This is one of the worst jobs in the world. The ESS 1 have a ridiculous workload & outrageous expectations. The work is humanly impossible to do, but the seniors, supervisors, OMCs & POAs could careless. They all do less then half the work of an ESS 1 & rarely helps ( OMCs & POAs do NOT EVER help. I don't think they know how ). The supervisor & seniors ( ESS 2 ) are not much better. They all judge on work they could never do, but judge & evaluate me about what I need to improve.... Which is ALWAYS numbers. This place wants quality & quantity, which is NOT obtainable with this position. You receive an outrageous of amount of cases to run & process DAILY & also need to interview ( there is a unit that ONLY does interviews, but that was taken from them & given to the ESS 1, that unit still exist, but does NOTHING for the better part of EVERY DAY ). A production list is sent out each day to "compare" each worker to the other. This only builds resentment within the workers because some workers work longer & cut corners, which you feel pressure to do, but some cannot; however you are compared to this person's work. Time off is earned, but almost impossible to take because your leave request is contingent upon your caseload being current... HOW ?!?! The work never stops coming in, but they still expect you keep up & even ahead. These judge mental ppl can't even determine eligibility, BUT they want to tell me to do more... SHOW ME !!! DO IT FOR A MONTH & SEE IF YOU CAN MEET TIME STANDARDS & everything else you expect me to do. We had one bonus given & it was to only 35% of the state employes, which your peers had a say- what real company gives a bonus over a raise & your co workers vote. We all NEEDED that bonus, but the seasoned workers DESERVED it over the ppl who have been there less then 3 yrs & not burnt out... IT WILL COME. The ppl that stay are ignored & belittle because they are not as fast as the new ppl, but these new ppl are coming to the old for help ( I don't blame the new ppl AT ALL, but show some appreciation & loyalty to the ones who have stayed ) The turnover is SO HIGH that some telecommuters never meet some of the newer ppl in their unit.... They quit in the blink of an eye because of the workload & insane stress. I can't believe a job that requires SO MUCH work would pay SO VERY, VERY, VERY LITTLE

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The ESS 2, supervisors, OMCs & POAs have got to do more to help the ESS 1 do their jobs. The clients need to be held accountable for their actions or lack of action. You can not continue to use old time standard from the 90s with 5x the work & expect the same outcome. If this agency does not make the necessary changes to improve you will continue to loose new & old workers & never become the agency that you should, could & would be because you refuse to do what was right over what was easy
